Three Things You MUST Do:

Three Things You Should Do:

Read Smashwords.com's  Style Guide

Read Smashwords.com's Promotions Guide

Read John Locke's  How I Sold 1 Million eBooks in 5 Months!

Shower and brush your teeth at least once a day.

Be kind to animals.

Mind your mother!

Three More Things You REALLY NEED to Do:

1. Find other IWA members of similar writing interests and form circles or co-ops

2. Stay active and respond to other IWA members' concerns on our members blog.

3. Positively review fellow IWA members' works everywhere available, including Amazon, Smashwords, B&N, and on readers' blogs.

Before you publish anything, whether it's on paper or electronic, you must ensure your work is in top shape.  After all, your eBook could be available on the Internet for...ever!  And it could be difficult and costly to make changes/corrections after the work is published and listed. Spell check, grammar check and proof read carefully after any changes and before you publish! Other writers' poor quality work and unprofessionalism reflects on the rest of us "indies".

PROMOTE YOURSELF: Be sure the books you publish have a listing in the "back matter" of the other books you have available, give your website address, email address (if you wish) for feedback, and your memberships.

Do the same with your email signature, on your Facebook page and with other social networking sites--this adds credibility.

One concern you must consider: if you epublish your work, you may not be able to get a traditional publishing contract for that piece.
